Today we dedicate our weekly recommendation to a band, being included within the modern progressive rock, not afraid to enter the metal significantly, achieving a sound that can not be overlooked. We speak of the British Oceansize, from the city of Manchester, and specifically from his album "Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up," which is our recommendation label of the week. Oceansize

After some EP's, released their first full length album in 2003. 7 years later, in September 2010, released their fourth album, which, without being so planned and became his last album, since barely a few weeks ago the group announced their separation. "Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up" contains 11 songs and lasts just over 55 minutes. In 5 of these songs, the heavy sound is clearly present in the other 6, more atmospheric sound and light prevails, explaining the origin of the band's sound. However, the distorted guitars are not always present is something you can enjoy a lot, something that bands like Opeth, Tiamat, Amorphis, Katatonia, Anathema and The Gathering well understood. So if the style of those groups you like, it will be a band Oceansize quite pleasant to hear.
As the album has songs as heavy as those more experimental, I recommend the best examples of each of these facets. On the lighter side, "Pine", "A penny's weight" and "Ransoms" are good examples of the depth can reach Oceansize, creating feelings that only the good Rock atmospheric achieved in the listener. On the strong side, the song that opens the album "Part cardiac" will give you an idea about the heaviness that the group can achieve, but do not keep the first impression, since the sound "stoner" of this track is not presented in "Build us a rocket then", another of the harder songs, or "It's my tale and I chase it if I want to." And in a curious note, but with much spirit Metalero, the group Manowar, Heavy Metal icon, caused a blackout in much of the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Atheist's sound is definitely influenced by jazz, which is noted in the bars of the songs. They are the first riffs of "Second to Sun" which gives a sample of what is going to expect the album. The first song makes it clear that each instrument, including voice work is detailed developed. And indeed, it remains "Fictitious Glide", a major issue that guitar and drums are so cool look.
"Frudulent Cloth" is definitely one of the most progressive and the best technical note of the band. The intro of "Live and Live Again" takes the first break of power, but is brutally interrupted by his riffs and dime "Faux King Christ." "They throw the Tortoise" and "When the Beast" are excellent songs, perhaps two of the best in this album. The perfect CD closes with "Third Person". The "Jupiter" Athesit is a solid material that can be heard easily from start to finish. The album is so complex, attractive and powerful that it is difficult not to be interested to hear, and even more not to like the lovers of death and thrash metal. Official Website

the city of Bergen, Norway, born in 1995. Although emerged in the wave of Black Metal in that country, the band has included progressive elements, folkloric and Vikings in style. The group has 8 studio albums and a compilation. Recommendation

Borknagar is a band from Norway formed in the mid-nineties. The group, now led by guitarist and vocalist Garnes Brun Vintersorg, has gone through the ranks of black, experienced enough with the viking and folk metal and even edited acoustic materials, far from the brutality. Perhaps for this and other reasons, Borknagar is a group that has been characterized by renewed himself and know what is proving with each album. On this occasion recommend his latest material entitled "Universal"
"Universal" is the eighth studio album by Borknagar. Launched in February 2010 and edited by 'Indie Recordings', the material contains eight songs and a length of nearly fifty minutes. We must remember that this album's predecessor was the "Origin" and that was precisely the entirely acoustic CD. In this new material Borknagar resumed the reins of folk metal viking very well prepared and seasoned with melodic passages is perfectly made and dark atmospheres. The material is, in fact, the resurrection of the band at their most aggressive.
The CD reminds us quite a material as "Empiricism" and "Epic", although this a bit more melodic. Still, developed by Borknagar progressions and how to experiment with the viking and folk metal remain a constant in this band. Some of their best songs are "Havoc", "The Stir of Seasons" and "Fleshflower." His song "For a Thousand Years to Come" is a remarkable and excellent work by bassist Tyr. In "Reason" and Worldwide "energy can also detect a certain black metal, it contains riffs that seem taken from the earliest era of the band.
In "My Domain" is a collaboration of ICS Vortex, ex-bassist and a second member of Bimmu Borgir and in this issue makes clear voice. The vocal of the album ranges enters the voice guttural and clean, both very well made and by Vintersorg that, ultimately, is primarily responsible for Borknagar the sound of what it is and have the excellent quality it has. This material is for those who enjoy the music melodic and aggressive at the same time, those who are open to new forms and formulas. On this album you can hear not just a good viking folk metal, progressive and well prepared, in the "Universal", is seen as a unique sound characteristic Borknagar.
